Steering/turning issues
Steering/turning issues
I've seen a bunch of threads about loose steering (mine definitely feels a lot looser than the bmw that I switched over from). But has anyone had any issues with turning? When I'm going up some long sweeping turns, I can't just keep the steering wheel turned and take the turn smoothly. The way I describe those turns is like going straight, turning a little, going straight, turning a little, etc... rather than just a smooth turn throughout. These are for turns going about 60-65 mph. It almost feels like if I'm holding the steering wheel constant the turning angle still ends up changing on me mid turn at these higher speeds.
Any ideas? Or is this just how the TL steering/turning is like?

Mine TL does this also. It is especially noticeable on interstate ramps. I always attributed it to there being play somewhere in the steering or suspension. I do remember reading something about a bushing that was wearing on these cars, but I don't remember off hand which one it was.
i would like to know what bushing this is, i am not really happy with the steering. Driving my brothers bmw is a world of difference but one of the big things for me when purchasing was the front wheel drive which is ten times more usable in the snow, so i just accepted poor steering as an unavoidable problem with that much power going to the front wheels.

As Slpr04UA6 indicated, the bushing is the LCA bushing or also referred to as compliance bushing. Check out https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=loose&page=17 , that link goes to the page of the thread that has the replacement part number and on car changeout procedure.

As well change your power steering fluid, after I did mine my TL's steering became a WORLD smoother!
I just posted this same problem today. Your description of it was definitely better than mine. Taking the car into a turn under acceleration I go to turn the wheel more and it feels like the rim folds over then comes back making it almost uncontrollable. I was thinking it was a wheel bearing and I was losing a wheel.
Did you ever change out the LCA bushing?
Did it solve the problem?

I know this problem all too well.. Here you go:
Symptoms: Steering was very loose, had about 0.5 inches of play and highway ramps/long sweeping curves... I felt my steering wheel keep loosing power and gaining power kicking the wheel back and forth... or binding.. kind of hard to describe. You all know if it if you felt it. I did the following in a step wise fashion.
1. Replaced Compliance Bushings .... solved problem 0%
1. Replaced outter tie rod ends first .... solved problem 10%
2. Replaced Inner tie rods ends ..... solved problem 20%
Then finally fed up ...
3. Replaced Rack & Pinion .... solved problem 100%
So... compliance bushings addressed shit for me. I was told rack and pinion from Acura comes with inner tie road ends. It was ultimately a new Rack that was needed. Now car feels new.
