SRS Indicator On After Swapping Out Seats

Hello aZine, hope others have some experience with this.

I have an '08 TL Type S that came with the ebony 2 tone interior leather seats. I bought a full set (used) of the Type S taupe interior leather seats and installed them myself. Everything is hooked up correctly.

However the SRS indicator has remained on ever since I did the swap (about 1 month). I've read on here that this is normal and that the light must be cleared at the dealership. Cheapest quote I've gotten is $99 at the dealership to clear the light.

Is this SRS system currently out of order? Meaning it will not deploy in an accident? Or should the system be fully functional and just needs to have the light cleared?

Prior to the seat swap, the SRS system was functioning 100% and the indicator would disappear several seconds after starting the engine.

Any info you guys might have would be greatly appreciated

Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried disconnecting the battery for awhile to see if the SRS system recycles / resets? Again I have no idea if this will work.
Make sure you have the codes for the Radio and Nav.

ECU reset did nothing, I've read on here other people tried disconnecting the battery and it didn't reset so I haven't even bothered. Worst case I take it to the dealer and they run a diagnostic to be sure everything's working and then reset the indicator light for me. But I'd like to avoid the dealer if possible. Thanks for the reply though

The OPDS sensor need to be re initialized and the SRS light cleared. Did you turn the key on with anything disconnected? That can also cause the light to come on. If you are a good servicing customer at your local dealership they may do it for free for you. If you dont spend much money at the dealership, expect to pay 1 hour of labor.

Aamco cleared mine... as autozone said they could for $25. Make sure all the pins in the SRS connector are in tight. I was removing my seats and barely pulled one out causing the problem.

look on craigslist also as there are many people in the automotive service section who can reset srs lights for much cheaper.

Yes the SRS light does not go off by just resetting the ECU....it needs some kind of a cycle reset for it to go away....

am going to assume you had your battery connected while switching the seats....this tripped the SRS light....

take it to Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts and see if that helps....if not, then going to the dealer is the only option you got left

Thanks for all the responses everyone, very helpful!

Dealers are charging a diagnostic fee ranging from $100-$125. I may just go that route versus just having someone clear the light for cheap since I can't be positive that there's nothing wrong with the seats. Everything is plugged in correctly and the seats were supposed to be in 100% working order. Bought them from a reputable guy here on azine but it seems better to be safe than sorry, maybe he missed something or maybe he didn't.

This is what I see everytime I start the car:

SRS Indicator - Always comes back on after engine startup
Side Airbag - Clears after startup
Passenger Airbag - Clears after startup

Going to get it looked at hopefully in the next week or two, in the meantime, I think all the other airbags are working according to the car's system check?

also do you get the seatbelt chime ? just want to make sure everything was plugged in correctly....

i think the light came on coz you did the install while the battery was connected....
