Exclamation Squeal from rear tire driving me nuts!

I replaced my rear rotor the other day, the same side with the e brake. Only because I had a terrible squeal coming from that wheel. I changed the rotor because it was really old and Im pretty sure they are the original rotors from new.

I have 66k on the car so I changed them out hoping it would stop the annoying squeal at around 35 to 45 mph when driving. Low and behold it didnt work and its driving me crazy!

But way before I replaced the rotor, I took it to Sears to see what they had to say about my squeaky tire. They came back a few min later telling me that there is a pin or wire scratching against the rotor?? I took the wheel off plenty of times but never seen the "wire" they mentioned. They qouted me $291 for a complete rear rotor change.

Should I take out the rotor and spray anything on the e brake parts? I just want to stop the squeal! I already put brake quite on the back of the pads but I know its not the pads that are squealing.

They could be right that it's a bit of debris scratching against the rotor. Before you pay them 300 bucks, pop the wheel and look really carefully. Rotate the rotor and see if you can pinpoint the source of the squeal. It might be small. It doesn't take anything very big at all to make a hell of a loud noise on a rotor.

on my other, it made a similar squeel. Turns out the retainer clip for the disc brake pad was bent, causing it to scrape the rotor. I couldn't see that it was touching, unless I poked my head above the rotor with a flashlight...

I took the retaining clip out, and tried to bend it back. I can't remember if I managed to do that, or if I just cut part of it off, it was a long time ago... BUt either way, I managed to fix it...

ok thanks guys, I will take a pic tomorrow and maybe you could show me what part your talking about.

Its weird though, I was driving normally today and it didn't squeal as much and as loud as other days.

Check your brake pads? Are they new? Still meaty?

Usually there's a metal piece there, and when your pads are low on meat, it will start scratching the rotor and cause it to squeel. But when you start braking, the squeel goes away.

Check your pads, and yeah! Take a picture, would be easier for us to diagnose this for you.
