Sound (squeal) from belt or engine when wet or humid outside

Hi all,

I have a 2005 Acura TL w/ 74k mi on it. It's all stock and I haven't done any work on the car besides brakes, oil, fluids....

The problem I have is this sound coming from the belt area when the weather is humid or wet outside. Once the car warms up the sound is gone. It's not the power steering fix that everyone else talks about. It's more higher pitch. The link below is a video of the sound:

Anybody have any ideas?

It's the drive belt. I had the same issue and changed the drive belt. No more squeals.

Squeal

Thanks for the reply!!! I was thinking the same thing too, but I was trying to get other peoples opinions to confirm what I thought.

I may do a timing belt change in the near future, so if I do that I may change EVERYTHING. (timing belt, water pump, tensioners, drive belt) I may even do a valve adjustment if I feel really ambitious.

The drive belt might not be the root cause of the squeak. After you replace it, pay attention to how many miles you rack up before it starts squeaking again. The problem might be something else.

Squeal

What are you thinking it might be? Tensioner? Bearing on the A/C Compressor, P/S pump, Alternator?

Just an update, I replaced the drive belt and I no longer hear the squeal on humid or wet days like I used to

Good to hear. It's been a tried and true adage for many years, especially on older cars before computers starting running them, to change the belt when it starts squeaking when it's wet out.
