Angry someone hit my car!!!

ok guys, so my 05 SSM was hit today while i was shopping at K Mart. I came out to find a long scratch from the rear all the way throuh the end of the rear passenger door. there is also a dent in the rear fender and right by the door jam. what do i do? do i go through my insurance? will my insurance go up? i am also worried about the value of my car going down. if i report to insurance..will it come up on a carfax when i sell/trade the car in years to come?

please give me some advice guys..i will try and get pics up tomorrow.

thanks

Well, you will want to go through your insurance if the damage is more than your deductible. Will your insurance go up? The answer is yes since you will file a claim with them. By the way, sorry to hear that some asshole hit your car. I hate parking in supermarkets where there are a lot cars and either you find someone dinging or scratching your car.

Dude....go back and make a police report. It should be covered as part of your uninsured motorist policy, which in Indiana, carries no deductible. So long as it wasnt vandalism, which would be covered under your comprehensive policy and carry a deductible - and was in fact a hit and run more or less (while you were away) in Indiana its covered under your uninsured/underinsured motorist policy which is required by the state. Either way if you wanted your insurance policy to cover it you are going to need a police report. You should have done that first before you left.

Right. Uninsured Motorist or Comprehensive. Ask your agent, but IMHO your insurance will NOT go up - unless you've had previous claims/issues.

If you were in an at fault collision - guaranteed you'd get a rate increase. But this is NOT your fault and is NOT a collision.

call your insurance agent and ask what to do, Since there was no other car there- an immediate police report was not the big concern. NO personal injuries is the decider there.
You carry comp. insurance, the `parked car`- part of that applies- you were nowhere near the scene and you were parked
That does NOT raise your insurance- similar to tree falling on your parked car, that not an uninsured tree!

IF you were both in motion, in cars, then it would be hit and run/uninsured

The only time your insurance should go up in an accident, is when YOU nail another car or 3, or you cause damage in some way to property or persons with your car.

Dang sorry to hear about this...The same exact thing happened to my car on March 23rd 2008. It was parked and some a-hole hit it and didn't leave a note...of course! I'm a licensed insurance agent here in CA and I can tell you based on what I know your insurance should not go up because you did not cause an accident, you did not cause bodily injury or harm, nor did you get a ticket of any kind. Normally this should fall under your uninsured motorist coverage if you have it. Unfortunately for me, it was not covered under my policy because the damage to my car totaled $925 and I have $1000 deductible. Below are pictures of my damage....it was like a bad dream as I was walking up to my car and noticed this...

I had to try and buff it out, its looks a lil better now, but the dent is still there obviously

Your insurance will not go up. And with cars like ours, it is better to have them repaired by a reputable dealer than to have it repaired by someone else.

Call your agent and ask. I had a similar issue. My State Farm agent told me my insurance would not go up if the company paid less than $700 for repair. The dollar number here is company specific. The $700 is the amount exceeding my deductible. You may want to get a free quote from a body shop but State Farm will send their own agent to your house to estimate the damage if you take cash settlement.
