Snapped off top bolts holding rear license plate =(

Hey,

Today I decided to wash the car.

I have a license plate cover and saw it with dirty behind it, so I decided to remove it to clean it.

Top two bolts are rusted as hell, bottom bolts look brand new.

As you can see:

Bottom bolts came out no problem.

Then I worked on the top bolts.

They were hard to loosen.
I got a few rotations and the bolt head snapped off!

Then I did the second one and it snapped off too!

I cleaned the plate cover and plate anywho, and stuck it back on using the two bottom screws.

Any tips on removing the screws that snapped off?

I can grip them using pliers, but when I try to turn it, I hear a "spring".

Anyone help?

Thanks =)

Spray them with PB Blaster and use vise-grips, but turn them in slightly before backing out, then go a little at a time, in then out. When all else fails, drill through the center and use an easyout with a lot of lubricant. Cover the painted areas when using the lube.
Replace with stainless steel fasteners.

I tried using vise grips but I heard a springy sound.

It was scary and weird so I stopped.

Might go buy PB Blaster tommorow =)

Can I get "stainless steel fasteners" anywhere?

I might drive down to my local Acura dealer (45 minutes away) and just ask them to fix this problem (while I buy some parts heheh).

That sound is the threads binding up. When I heat a rusted nut with a torch, I remove the nut until that sound is heard, then apply more heat and continue, of not it will snap.
I assume they can be purchased at most auto parts stores and you can always use neverseize on the theads of the new bolt ust as a precaution.
