Smell after CAI install

hey guys i recently bought an aem v1 cold air intake from someone off of craigslist. i just installed it today and all the hoses are connected properly and the clamps are tight. i took it out for a test run and had my cutout open and didnt hear much of a difference so i thought that it was just because the cutout was louder than the intake. i came home and closed the cutout and took it for another run. this time the intake was still very quiet even at redline. there was no deep growl like the aem is known to have. also as i was coming home, i noticed a horrible smell coming from the intake. i could smell it every single time i was at WOT. could anyone help me out with this? im not sure if it is the filter or something else is wrong. Thanks!
