Thumbs up Simple way to stop the Crankshaft Pulley from turning during the install..

Problem: The crankshaft pulley is turning, as a result the bolt holding it can't be torqued to spec, approx. 180 ft-lbs of torque, or undone (aftermarket pulley)

Fix: Remove the plastic cover underneath the engine/tranny. Open the torque converter(5AT)/clutch (6MT) small metal case cover. It's held by 2- 10mm bolts. Jam a pry bar/screwdriver btw the torque converter (5AT)/flywheel (6MT) teeth and the case. This will enable you to stop the crankshaft pulley from turning in either direction. Grab a torque wrench and tighten the bolt to 180ftlbs or 45ftlbs+ additional 60 degrees.

Caution: Please go easy and be safe! Only use this guy when no other method of removing or installing the pulley works for you (pulley holder tool, starter blip, etc.)

Pics (for 5AT, 6MT is similar):

Welcome! Happy Holidays everyone!!!

I remember a lot of guys with UR pulleys wanted to know the exact location of the transmission access port for the flywheel. Well, there you go, a picture is worth a thousand words!

I remember having to do this on a Maxima one time. Thanks for the reminder! I am about to start the timing belt change on my TL in the morning.
