Side Mirrors in Reverse
Side Mirrors in Reverse
I have an 06 TL w/ 28k miles and still under warranty. Recently, neither of my side mirrors have been tilting down while in reverse EVEN when the mirror selector switch is in the left or right position.
The mirrors adjust just fine manually so I know that neither of the side mirrors have popped out of their housings. Furthermore, the mirrors adjust along with the driver1/2 settings. The mirrors used to tilt while in reverse; no more. I'm absolutely puzzled. Rather than dealing with the hassle of taking it to the dealership, I was hoping that somebody had a clue here. Maybe a short somewhere? Or do I have to program the mirrors somehow?
Again, believe me when I say that I know that the selector has to be either in the left or right position.. Thanks

Unless there is a dedicated fuse for the tilt-down (which I doubt), see the dealer. Everyone else on AZ for the past couple of years with mirror tilt-down issues has 1) failed to use the selector switch or 2) had a defect with the mirror itself. Your problem sounds like a switch on the transmission selector end.

Yes, backup lights work properly; maybe that is a separate switch. Still..Will Y may be right, there may be a problem on the tranny end. Regardless, this doesn't seem like a problem that I will be able to fix on my own. Any more suggestions?
I have an '07 TL with with about the same mileage as you and my left and right mirror switch went bad. I try going into reverse and setting the switch into the right position and pressing it towards the dash see if that helps any.
My 2005 TL w/Navi started having problems with the reverse tilt down mirror during cold temperatures in the low 30's or in the 20's. Then the problem started happening in cold, warm, or hot temperatures. Although, the reverse tilt down was not consistently failing to tilt the mirror each time I put the car in reverse.
My dealership replaced the Power Mirror Switch on the dashboard. So far so good.

Yea, I'm having the exact same problem as you, A_UFO. The tilt down doesn't always fail. I'd say that it fails about 85% of the time. The other 15% is on days like today when I took it to the dealership to get it checked out (just my luck that it functions just fine on the day i take it to the doctor). They gave me the ignorant "Only one mirror tilts down/switch has to be in either the left or right position" speech. They probably think I'm either crazy or stupid but I felt like I was pleading my case to a wall. I guess I'm just going to have to live with it as is.
