Service ~ A-14
Service ~ A-14
Hey guys,
Just wanted to get some opinions, I just called my local Acura and asked about my most recent service notification, A-14, who said that it was oil change $59.99, Tire rotation $64.95, Spark plugs $290.00 & Timing belt replace, Water pump replace and possible Tensioner (sp?) replace $1,150!
My question to all who have knowledge, it is something that should 100% be done? the timing belt & water pump replacement. This is something that i've only replace in one other vehicle that i've owned, and that's because it needed to be replaced, leak in the water pump. Obviously, oil and spark plugs will be done.
Thanks for your help!

The water pump is customarily replaced because the labor is being done anyway for the timing belt-- some water pumps will have already have started to weep/fail, while others might not last until the next timing belt change. Also, the tensioners should be replaced. FYI, there are aftermarket kits which contain the parts for a timing belt change, and they include an idler bearing, two tensioners and the serpentine/accessory belt as well as the timing belt and the water pump. However, dealerships often don't use these kits, and don't change these parts unless asked, for extra charges.
IDK about labor prices in Canada, but you should consider getting an estimate from a good Honda/Acura independent repair shop (the Accord V6, Odyssey, Pilot and MDX all have the same basic V6 which require timing belt services) to compare the price and parts replaced.
The "4" service is the major maintenance service for the V6 Acuras and Hondas, as well as for some 4 cylinder Hondas, and usually comes up around every 105K US miles (IDK the km. conversion) or so.
Welcome to AZ.
