Serp Belt Issue
Serp Belt Issue
After it rains I hear a squeal noise coming from one of the belts, so I brought it to the Acura dealer and was told " Tensioner and pulley had failing bearing"
Cost: $359
I told them to wait on the replacement until I come back for the recall.
Is this something that needs to be replaced?
Also should it be covered under warranty? Car has 47xxx miles.
Thanks

That seems a little steep, i just changed mine and parts were only $90 for a new tensioner with 2 pulleys and a new belt. Took about an hour.
I don't know on the warrant part but i don't see how it would be, i assume they said it wasn't covered under warranty?
Let me ask you if you want to be on a road trip and that bearing fails and locks up burning off the belt completely.

Look in the warranty booklet to see if it's part of the Power Train Warranty (link here if needed: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/j-020-3g-acura-tl-owners-manual-navi-manual-warranty-booklet-pdfs-851625/).
If it's not part of the Power Train Warranty (6-yrs or 70,000 miles) then it's part of the 4-year, 50,000 mile warranty. Problem with that is the time starts from 1st consumer delivery and it's almost certain an '07 is out of warranty based on time.
There are TSB's for the tensioner, but if it's out of warranty the dealer isn't required to replace it for free. BUT sometimes Acura will 'good will' something like this. Play nice, maybe you'll get lucky.

^ Thanks for the info Bearcat
My real concern/question is does it have to be replaced? I've beed driving with it for a couple months, just never found the time to bring it to the dealer until last.
Is it just a noise maker or does it cause damage to the car?

It's a noise maker and I can only see it causing damage if one of them seizes. Odds of that happening??? I've had many pulleys and tensioners make crazy noises, and I have ran them for a long time without seizing. That's pretty steep though IMO.
