It's normal for the calipers and disk to exhibit some rusting. These parts are exposed to the elements. Just what exactly is rusting? Can you post some pics?

Sorry no pics but its not the calipers. Its the hub were the rim is attatched to with bolts .

The rotor? If so, it's fine. Even if not so, it's fine. Rust is normal on some of the parts.

is there any oil or special chemical which will keep it from "looking" rusty?

Um.... please do not put any oil or chemical on your rotors. If you do, please make me the beneficiary of your life insurance policy first.

the rust will come and go with the weather. if it is rusty, drive the car, the calipers will remove the rust look from the rotor after you drive for a bit.

all cars rust at the rotor hub. its just a matter of where you live and how much snow, salt and rain it is exposed to.

It may not be a question of age of the car. I noticed a light coating of rust on my rotors the first time I washed my car. It was about a week old. As soon as I drove it and used the brakes it came off (as noted above). They still rust up every time I wash the car . . . doesn't really bother me though.

I've read many of the responses in this forum and rust on the rotors is quite normal. However, when the Acura dealership looked at my 2002 TL with very low mileage, they said told that my rotors were rusted and needed to be **resurfed.** My car is still under warranty, but these parts aren't covered-- it's considered "normal wear and tear" on the car.

So, if the rust is normal, why is the Acura dealership selling me a $200+ service to resurface my rotors?

Come on, you really have to ask that? Wouldn't you like it if someone gave you $200 for nothing?

The rust on the rotors and resurfacing have nothing to do with each other. They will rust despite. You need them resurfaced when they are getting worn rough, that is when you get a little lip on the outer edge of the rotor and the surface gets to be gauged, rather than smooth.

I hope this makes sense.

My good people - read the mans original post - he is not complaining about the rust on the disc (rotor) - that is so normal - just wash your car and walk away for 10 minutes - you will see what looks like rust immediately. He is not talking about the caliper either. He is describing exactly what I posted a long time ago - I think with pics too - of the hub where the rim bolts to it. I too was told this is normal but I did not believe because the rears are fine. But was told that the front get hotter so the paint probably blew away quicker. Who knows.
