Running rough?

I have been noticing that my '04 TL 5speedAT seems to be running rough. When I am maintaining speed or mild acceleration I felt a very mild vibration, like my engine is straining...almost like it is misfiring or something. When I accelerate hard I get no vibration...just silky smooth power.

I'm not getting any CEL, I just changed the oil, had the tranny flushed about 2 months ago by Acura, the 2nd gear jet kit installed, I did the seafoam treatment and changed the plugs (NGK Iridiums) about a month ago.

I did the SeaFoam at about 70k, followed the instruction I found on Acurazine exactally and got some real good smoke.

Any body have the same problem or guesses as to what it might be?

So the local parts store has one in stock for $99...I'm going to pick it up and swap it out after work and see what happens.

Can anyone give me a little guidance as to where i find bank2 sensor1?

If MIL is the same as a CEL...yes. Nothing was indicating that i had a code in there, i just hooked up the reader because i had it out for a friend.

Do you think that it is an old code and that it might not be my problem? It seems logical that the engine would run rough when maintaining speed if it is stuck lean.

Ya thats why I think. Coulda been from the sea foam douching. Try and have your boy reset it and then see if it comes back. Dont buy any parts just yet.

Could have thrown the lean code at that time.

I went ahead and replaced the part before i read your response. It seems to be running a lot better and bumped my city MPG up from 19 to 21.

question off topic... when they replaced your tranny did they replace the Tranny ECU? and does it hold 1st gear to the redline in manual? I have a 05 5AT and I drove a 07 5AT and the manual tranny seemed alot more agile...

Just wondering.
Thanks

So the problem is back (or it never really left)....this time i have narrowed it down a little more.

When I am cruising at 45mph the engine seems to runs rough and seems to be straining.

I'm sort of thinking it might be bad motor mounts because it seems to have excessive vibration when I'm idling with the a/c on...and i know that TL's are notorious for bad motor mounts.

The only other thing i can think of would be something going on in the transmission...since it occurs at 45 mph...that is about the lowest speed 5th gear accommodates. I also just checked my tranny fluid and if is only so/so...it isn't the bright red fresh clean fluid is. I had a full flush and fill done by Crown Acura back in January...there is no way is should be looking rough already....right?

P.S. I'm not getting any codes either, so it's not the O2 sensor.

I have an '04 6MT TL and mine is running rough as well. I'm sure my motor mounts are broke because I get severe engine rocking when backing off throttle quickly in 2nd or 3rd gear when running high RPM's for each gear.

The engine rocking also occurs when the engine runs rough at mid to low throttle. The motor just seems to hesitate then accelerate (aka bucking) between 1,500 RPM to 3,500 RPM. It does it both cold and warm engine temps. If I did a hard launch with full acceleration through the gears it is silky smooth even with broken motor mounts.

I'm thinking of getting an OBDII reader because the dealership is over an hour each way. I don't have a CEL but I'm sure something has failed. Could it be the EGR? I'll keep searching...

it could be a bad a/c clutch.. does it vibrate in idle with the a/c off?

make sure your intake is clean.. clean the top end of any carbon deposits.. run some seafoam through the intake and tank.. your engine could be lugging.. other members have reported similar experiences at 45.. drop it in SS to 4th until you get up to speed.

Your tranny is probably fine.. don't worry about it. Just clean out the intake from filter to mani.
