Rotor warp/vibrating steering wheel question

Hi AZ: I recently brought my 05TL in for the B24 service and the mechanic informed that that my rotors were warped. He stated that when braking at 60-70 the steering wheel vibrates.

I hadn't experienced it before but was able to replicate what he described. The reason i hadn't noticed it is because I am a conservative driver and keep enough distance so that I can let the car coast for a bit to slow down initially.

Looking over the rotor warp threads I don't recall any mention about the vibration occuring at a certain speed. The negative I read about not addressing this is that excessive wear would occur from the vibrations but if I don't drive in a way that induces the vibration is there any harm in not addressing this? Also, would this problem get worse and cause vibrations for a larger range of speed thereby necessitating an eventual fix.

I got my car serviced at an independent mechanic and they quoted me 419.99 for front brakes and rotors and 199.99 for rear brakes. I don't know much about cars and was going to get new brake pads when they start squealing. Is this advisable?

3/2013 82k miles Independent dealer 80% front/30% rear remaining. Need rear brakes
10/2013 103k Dealer FL 8mm, FR 8mm, RL 5mm, and RR5mm
6/2014 110k Same Independent dealer 20% front/rear remaining. Need front/rear brakes

Thanks.

I would personally do them all at once. Might as well just get them done. I recommend using oem products especially for rotors as they seem to be less prone to warping.

First off, rotors don't warp, there is pad transfer onto the rotors that cause the uneven surface, but if the pulsation doesn't bother you, or you don't feel it, then just drive the car until pad replacement is needed and then also replace the rotors. There will be no harm in driving the car this way.

I had the opposite experience with my OEM rotors, my 06 TL's rotors were gone when it was around 20K and I drive like a grandma....I replaced them with Rotoras (got from Excellerate) all around (front and rear) and lasted me for another 60K. Then recently replaced them with StopTechs. My car has around 91K now.
