Replacing TL axles
I have an 05 TL auto. The axles are making the dreaded ticking noises on turns, especially when it is cold.
I've searched about replacing the axles myself here. I will probably get OEM parts since the originals have last for 150,000 miles. My question is how should it take to replace an axle? Is one side more difficult than the other? An special tips or tricks to make the job easier? It doesn't seem to require any special Acura only tools. |
Not very difficult. Be careful to not damage your ball joint when you separate the spindle. After that yank out the old half shaft and push in the new one. Make sure the half shaft is seated properly. Be prepared for a bit of oil spillage.

Does the alignment need to be checked afterwards?
I should be able to complete the axle swap on both sides in about 6 hours? The axle nut seems to be the biggest problem due to it being so difficult to break loose. |

No, you won't need and alignment as the only adjustment is toe and changing an axle won't change that setting.
Make certain that on the right side, passenger side, you remove the axle from the intermediate shaft, NOT from the trans. |
