Redline Type F Fuild in cold weather
Redline Type F Fuild in cold weather
Hey guys. I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I can't find it. I'm changing the 3rd and 4th gear pressure sensors soon and when I do that I want to start a 3X3 transmission fluid change to Redline Racing ATF (Type F). The only thing I was wondering is how it works in the winter. I live in Rochester, NY and it gets pretty cold there in the winter. So does anyone have any issue with the Redline Racing ATF in the winter.
I'll make it brief before the misinformation starts.
Redline makes two Type F fluids, "racing" and "lightweight racing". One is thicker than factory fluid, one is thinner. A 50-50 mix puts you somewhere in the factory ballpark. I had no problems with straight Racing fluid but it only gets down to freezing here. If it gets much colder than that, I would go with a mixture of the two. You also have other options such as Amsoil Super Shift which is a Type F with the same viscosity as stock so no mixing is required.

^most get it online from amazon, etc.
i got lucky and found a local supplier a few miles from my house. just google around for places in your area. specialty shops would carry this.
