Redline, Amsoil or Honda trans fluid?

I'm planning to do the 3x3 trans fluid change and trans filter change. I've read a few posts from 2010 where people where suggesting using Redline Racing ATF. Is this still recommended? Are people using redline Type F or D4? Is this preferred over Amsoil and Honda? Just got my 2006 TL auto trans with 82k and hope to keep it for at least another 100k miles. I drive 80 freeway miles/day, but like to drive twisty roads on the weekends.

Do I change the trans filter when I do the third fluid change?

Thanks!

You are going to get a variety of responses. Most will probably recommend Honda fluid but others will say Redline or Amsoil. Highway driving is not near as hard on a transmission because it is not shifting a lot. Good maintenance on the trans is still key and its good you are asking these questions.

Personal preference with the oil and doesn't matter with the filter. Can be done when ever.

I would either use Redline D4 or the OEM DW-1. The wrong amount of Type F can do more harm than good, but the D4 is a safe bet.

Do not go all 100% racing ATF as it will not be good for the car with daily use. (ie Type-F vs D4, etc.) I'm sure you found that thread on racing ATF %, take few hours to go through the thread. Lots of good ATF info.

For easiness and cheapness and OEM....I've just used the HOnda OEM and it shifts great.

Regularity of fluid drain/refill is more important than exact type of fluid. Sure the Redline/Amsoil is probably better fluid on paper....but over years and years if you drive properly (
) and keeping it regularly updated with fluids and the pressure switches and filter...you'll be just fine.

Here's a GREAT website that has very good technical info on these Honda trans/ATF and also a nice web page that goes against the grain of "Redline/Amsoil is always better than OEM"

Link: Redline

Spend some time reading through that guy's site....very very informative/useful.

I've used both DW-1 and Redline D6, never could really tell a significant difference between them. DW-1 is significantly cheaper though. I paid $28 for 3 quarts of DW-1 vs around $50 for 3 quarts of D6.

Redline D4 can be bought through amazon, 12 bottles (case) for $130 if you go that route.

Thanks guys, I think I'll stick to the OEM DW1 for now. I can research redline products indepth when I have more time, but right now I'd rather just get the trans oil and filter done for peace of mind, since I just bought the car.
