hi guys, my 08 has developed the "shaky rear view" I picked up the part required for the fix but i cannot figure out for the life of me how to get the mirror off the glass. I removed the center console, removed the two plastic covers on the mirror... and nothing. I cant get the thing to budge off the glass.

I was following these steps... stuck on #4.... it doesnt budge.

Can anyone assist?

1) Remove both light covers-pry with a small screwdriver thats protected with tape or
something
2) Removed the lower part of the console (that holds the map lights). It kind of snaps
out...rear side first (side closer to rear of car).
3) Remove 4 8mm bolts from the upper part of the console
4) Mirror slides forward for removal. Undo the plug.
5) Take off the "spring" and bend both tabs inward. I did a few test tries until I could
barely get the spring back on.

 

i knew that if i posted here in a panic, within minutes i would be able to figure it out!

Ever since I had to replace my windshield, the rear view mirror area makes a horrible creak with the tiniest bump:


That creaking sound is the mirror area and it is much worse in person and unbelievably annoying. If I put pressure on the mirror, pulling or pushing, it does not make the creak.

I can't get past part 2, I'm pulling on the plastic dome light thingie but it doesn't want to go and feels like its about to break.

Any suggestions or anything else I can do?

It's the windshield installation/fit, not the mirror. The noise is from body flex. Get the windshield re-installed properly.
