Rear Shock Issue

Has anyone had a rear shock problem with a low mileage '08 TL Type S. I picked up a "certified" '08 TL with 30,500 miles on it. When I test drove the car, I heard a clucking in the rear end. The car went the certification process and they found the drivers side rear shock defective. I picked up the vehicle and noticed another noise from the rear end, like a rattle. Diagnosed at the dealer the other shock was replaced. I don't see how that can happen to a 3 yr old car with low mileage. I was thinking, it was sitting on there lot for almost 5 months, and lack of use would cause them to fail. The service supervisor said they were not leaking. Any thoughts?

i dont think that you have problem with your shocks, it is something else. I never had acura with bad shock, especially if your 08, right now i have 07 type s, and sometime i have cluncking noise in the back, and in the front. Still havent found the problem. My 02 acura rl had same clunking noise As far i know all my acura's had sterring wheel vibrations and cluncking noises

the TL-S came with a bad batch of dampers that were causing clunking noises. No such thing was on the Base TL's.

To the OP, sometimes if the previous owner abused the car like overloaded the rear shocks with to much weight, it could cause premature failure.

Picked up the car last night from the dealer. Still makes the same noise, guess it wasn't the shocks. Maybe its's a normal sound with this car, since it has a harder ride compared to the newer models.
