Rear brake squeal

Rear brake squeal
when I brake while reversing, about 40-50% of the time my rear brake pads will squeak. when i go forward and brake, absolutely no squeaks ever.
why? I already applied brake grease on the back of the rear pads but that didnt help, and theres plenty of padding left.
is it possible i have cheap aftermarket pads that squeak? how would i be able to check if its oem or not?

Seems that many have this problem across all makes and a great many hear this only in reverse after the car has been sitting. With the lack of asbestos in the pad material and metallic and ceramics being used, along with the car driven 99% of the time forward, it's possible that the trailing edge of the pad has become the leading and with the light brake pressure on the rear, creates a different movement of the pads. Try chamfering that edge to see if that reduces the noise.

read another forum that if you drive around in reverse and ride on the brakes for a little bit it should help the squeaking problem... it was also suggested to do this in an empty parking lot
gonna try it myself next time i work i will let you know how it turns out

yup, i have hawk HPS pads on the rear with brembo blank rotors...always squeal like i ran over a cat since install typically with backing into my driveway, worsens if i try and turn a little. my neighbors love it she's home! dealer said nothing they can do about it. i've just kind of learned to live with it. unless there really is a vaible solution to fix this.

I developed this noise after changing the front rotors and pads.
it only squeaks when the car is cold and when I reverse out of the garage.
my solution: park in reverse. I can just drive right out of the garage.

just confirmed my squeal is from the front brakes. had someone outside listen for me and its from the front brakes for sure. i took off my front pads today and im not sure if they are oem, maybe i have some cheap aftermarket ones, because they were only chamfered on one side of the pad(hence squealing only when reversing)

Did you ever end up figuring this one out? Im a brand new TL-S owner and im experiencing the same thing. Was thinking about trying to do the backwards break riding method in the Miller Park parking lot tonight to see if that fixes it haha

yep. My front brake pads were squealing in reverse because they were not chamfered as they were some cheap aftermarket brand. I have switched brake pads and all is well now.
