The Rattle Thing

Hi all,

I'm strongly considering a purchase of a 06 TL. I recognize that no car is perfect but the idea that I'm going to buy a new 30K car and then have to get rattles fixed, well, it's not so good. And, I've read a lot of rattle complaints.

So here are my questions. Is some of it just due to people buying their first luxury car and expecting perfection? Are there really genuine issues with the rattles? Do only people with rattles complain while those who have a perfect car, well, we never hear from them?

I did read about a lot of rattle complaints on the review boards and I find most boards have a few outliers but most people love their cars (car bias) so I admit it leaves me wondering.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/comments.

Oops,

I meant to put this in the general forum. Can a moderator move it so I don't get a lecture about crossposting.

Thanks!

I recently bought an 06 TL and had similar concerns as you do. I usually keep my cars for a while so I look at many perspectives of a car but it comes down to could I live with this vehicle for 6-8 years and still like it at the end? I am happy to report that I haven't noticed any rattles yet in my 6 weeks of ownership. I guess the thing that reduced my concerns was that many (but certainly not all) complaints involve earlier years and that this forum has great information on solutions if you should experience a rattle. In addition, some of the reported rattles may be owner induced: stuff in map pockets, sun visors not clipped in and etc which aren't the fault of the car per se.

The other thing to keep in mind is a rattle is something that may be irritating, but it doesn't stop you dead and cause an unplanned service. From what I notice on the TL, it is a very well engineered car and performs and looks great. No car is perfect, but I think the TL is pretty darn good.
