Range mileage

After every fillup, my range mileage always goes to 468 miles. Then even after driving maybe 50-75 miles it still reads 468 miles to empty.

Anyone else get a higher miles to empty figure?

My actual range turns out to be over 500 miles on a tankful but yet my range guage never shows more that 468.

What yal think?

mine usually says >325mi after a fillup. If i drive easy it goes up or stays for a little bit. I've never seen another car that has a > sign in front of milage. I do mostly town/city driving with highway for work no traffic. I forget what my highest range has gone up to I rarely look after the initial fillup.

Rurual area

I live in a very rural part of TN. The nearest town is about 5 miles and it has a population of only 3,500 folks. So my driving is all rural.

I get about 460 a tank if I fill up when I have 3 gals left on a 02 CL with hwy driving

I get 26 mixed

in city driving I get about 335 or about 23mpg.

keepin ur foot out of the trottle = awesome gas milage

When I had a 07 TL as a loaner I got an average of 28 and when I had a TSX as loaner, i got 33mpg mixed

Wow! I get 20 mixed and usually get maybe 300 from a tank in the summer, less in the winter. That would change if I did straight HW but that usually doesn't happen.

Well I have seen a high of 34mpg before on my numberous drives from VA to and NJ to VA. Usually I average 32mgp doing roughly 80mph the entire way. However, I have never tried seeing 500 miles on a tank.

500 miles on 15 gal?? From a TL?? I've never seen close to that. My GF can get ~325-330, but I get about 300 on a tank. Sorry, it's off-topic. I think I see the same >325 miles left on the counter after a fill-up.

i think its more like 17.5 gal, but the light comes on with like 2-3 gal left.

i can easily get 400 miles/tank if i want and like the OP i believe i usually have the 468ish miles remaining upon fill up.

Mileage

Something I should clarify. My TL is an 05 model with a manual transmission. I have Bridgestone w/serenity tires on it that I bought new about 10k ago. I check air pressure every week or so and overinflate them by two pounds. 37 front & 34 in the rear. I use non synthetic castrol GTX 5-20 oil and factory oil filters.

I drove this morning for my usual 10 round trip trek to town. My miles to empty is still showing 468 miles to empty and I had driven 41 miles on this tank of fuel. Average mpg number was showing 31.

I use premium. But, it has no ethanol in it. It is 100% gasoline.

yeah, that doesnt sound right. i dont know what type of mechanism is used to measure the fuel level (miles remaining) but i would assume it is linked to the fuel gauge...but i could be wrong. is that working correctly?

Great thread....I have been having a similar issue with my 07 TL-S. I've gotten 350+ (mixed hwy driving) but after I had my purge control valve replaced because my "tighten fuel cap" light was on, I got 200 all city driving with the fuel light on. Took a little over 14 gallons to fill up. I dont drive it over 4K RPMs either.

I've been getting about 400 miles on my last few tanks using about 13.8 to 14.5 gallons. I've found that when the light comes on I have 3.5 gallons left and when the mileage says 0 in the MID, i have 2.5 gallons.

Squeaky Master Cylinder

My fuel guage seems to be working just fine.

I am taking it in tomorrow for a squeaky clutch. Its the master cyclinder that is the culprit. It all works as designed, it just squeaks every time I depress it.

My dealer, Gary Force in Nashville Tn already replaced it once back in January 09 under warranty for the same problem. Now he tells me since it has not yet been a year that he will replace it for no charge. The car has been out of warranty since July 09. And get this, I ask him how much for a tire rotation and he said "well, while we have it in the shop I can do that for you for nothing" I think that might be a sign of a fairly exceptional dealership.

I am going to ask him about my distance to empty issues as well.

Bear in mind that the "miles to empty" reading is always, and can only be, an estimate. The computer has no way to account for the situation where you've been sailing along in 6th gear with your cruise control set at 70 mph for the past 200 miles, turning 30+ mpg, then suddenly you hit rush-hour traffic on the Beltway and I-66 and you crawl along at barely 5 mph doing the stop-and-roll thing for the next hour and a half. The traffic jam would cause your fuel economy to drop very suddenly, but I'm not sure how quick the "miles to empty" reading is to catch up to that. (The reverse scenario is also true, of course, where your range would improve after escaping the traffic schemozzle.)

I've never paid much attention to see what mine does after I refill it, but I'll try to remember to take a look next time. I'm getting lower mpg on the current tank due to second-gear starts and heavier traffic due to lost lanes because of the big snowstorm last weekend, so it would be interesting to see if it gives me a lower "miles to empty" reading based on the lower fuel economy on the most recent tank. As you probably know, the "miles to empty" is based on your recent fuel economy, as in "if you continue at your current fuel economy this is a reasonable estimate."

It's normal with the TL to get considerably worse fuel economy in all-city driving compared to when you do ANY highway driving, especially if you have the 6MT.
