First, make sure you've turned off the HFL by pressing the "end" button for a few seconds. The HFL buttons face the front of the steering wheel, while the buttons on the back side of the wheel are the Navi voice control buttons.
Also make sure your phone is compatible with the TL's HFL system so you don't end up with a locked HFL. Register with the Acura owner website to get the most recent list of compatible and incompatible phones (as well as access to the Acrobat version of the owner & Navi manuals, etc.).
