radio/nav button lights out

I know it's common for the steering wheel and seat heater switch bulbs to die an early life, but is it common for the audio nav button lights to go out? What are my options in getting them replaced? My "cancel" and "audio" buttons no longer glow...this shouldn't be for an 06 with 60k.

This is one of the areas left for me to complete. Look for a DIY soon. You can also check out the ones we have completed by searching the 3G Garage for DIY F-165.

Thanks. Any idea if they are the same type of bulb that is used in the steering wheel? I plan to replace those with something other than OEM and will do the same for the radio buttons, if so. Any idea how difficult it is to access them?

If you are sticking with OEM, then yes they are the same minibulbs used in the steering wheel. Whether they are EXACTLY the same dimension-wise, I am not sure yet. I was planning on ripping apart my dash this weekend to begin this part of my project---replacing all of the lights with LEDs.
There is a running DIY for this in the 3G Garage---you want #F165. We have covered the Homelink console, steering wheel and rear door window switches so far.

My driver climate control, A/C, and recirculate bulbs are out, I am looking forward to the DIY so that I can replace them.

I plan on replacing my burned out bulbs with the following bulbs...hopefully they'll last longer than the crap oem ones. So if these work with the steering wheel, they'll work for the NAV/radio button lights?

$1.79/pair

dunno that they will last longer, but those are the same type as OEM. If you look at the LED DIY, you will see how we are replacing those lights with LEDs and resistors. A bit more work, but we can 1) change the color of the lights and 2) use LEDs which should outperform any incandescent bulb---OEM or otherwise.

yeah, it would be nice to swap them out for LED style, but I don't have the time or really want to tear everything apart if I don't have to. I have two wheel lights, one seat warmer light, and two nav lights that need replaced.

I imagine that I'll have to remove the nav screen, but once I do, is it easy to access the bulbs by looking at the back of the switches? Will the radio need to come out as well, or just the nav screen? The buttons are not part of the radio.

Radio and Navi screen are separate components. I think you can pull the screen without the radio. Planning on doing mine this weekend. I should have a DIY posted early next week.

I dont think you can pull the screen with out the Radio
see pic below
Both of them are screwd to gether, if you ty to take the navi out with out taking the radio you might crack some plastic unde the navi screen. " I dont know if u will but i DID "

any ways when u take the radio and the screen out you will see 4 holes.

put a flat screwdriver and turn counterclockwise, and take out the bulb

then you decide what you want to do.

Thanks. Does the entire center console and lower dash panels(located on each side of the radio) need to be removed or can the radio be removed by removing only the two alum strips?

another question regarding lights... Does the Round Nav Scroll Button (in the center below the screen) have a light or not? Mine does not light up and I can't remember if did or not.
