Rack & pinion

So I took m car into Firestone because I bought their unlimited alignment deal for $160. after about 20 mins I get a call and the guy says I have a power steering leak and they have to do a leak check with dye for $140 dollars. I said go ahead and do the dye, they call back about 45 min later and say the power steering pump, house and rack need to be changed. They didn't have the parts which is good.

So while waiting for my car to be done I get on AZ and find a post of someone asking the same thing, I find out that there is a recall for this problem. Monday rolls around I call Acura Customer care and ask about the recall. The guy says it was done back in 2009 by the previous owner, I asked don't you think that is a little suspect? parts changed in 2009 and everything is bad less than 4 years later. He said I would have to take it to an Acura service center and if they find that that is the problem then I can call back in.

what do you guys think should I push harder at this to have customer care help cover cost?

Be very careful of them trying to push a "solution" on you that you don't need just to get some money out of your pocket. I already can't believe they charged you $140 just to check for a power steering leak. They're pretty much telling you that all of the power steering components are no good all at the same time which I've never heard of before, does your car have any symptoms? They simply told you all these things were no good but if they weren't then trust me you'd notice driving, the steering would make noise and be hard 90% of the time. BTW i am a person that has had many power steering problems on my car when i first bought it so i would know.

Check the recall on power steering hose (to see if your TL has had it done). And agree with above.....

Gil's the only time I have heard the sound was when I was turning my wheel I could hear this loud whining. Steering wasn't hard or anything so I never checked it

Slpr04UA6 It has been done back in 2009, but it's leaking from the hose again. Acura customer care wants me to take the car to a Acura service center and if they say the cause is the hose to call Acura customer care back and they might cover it.

It could be just a simple o-ring replacement......here is a link below, I don't know if you saw this? Has cured the whine for a number of members. I would also follow up with Acura on the hose....
