Purge Control Valve and Purge Joint Issue

I noticed that the hose coming from the intake mani to the Purge control valve was cracked but there wasnt a change in my idle. Once i replaced the hose the car idle was low and at times the car would stall out. How vital is this sensor and joint to performance or MPG ? Can bypass it altogether and connect directly to the purge joint ?

Replace it and undo your battery terminal to let the ECU relearn the idle
