Question Pulled Error codes P0420, P0430

i got a check engine light on the other day and had a friend who owns an OBDII scanner scan my car to see what was causing the codes and it came back with P0420 and P0430..i checked online and i know they have to do with the o2 sensors but does anyone know which ones to order (part numbers and where i can get the OEM sensors from)? the car only has 37k on it (2005 TL auto), thanks for the help in advance..

That is the codes I had... they are catalytic converter low efficiency I believe (P0420 is the front cat, P0430 is the rear, I think). They replaced all three cats under warranty (the third cat had an assload of substrate from the precats in it). The precats were destroyed, substrate coming loose and melted. They should be covered under the 8yr/80,000 mile federal emissions warranty. Give the dealer a call.

well heres the thing..about a year ago ive installed a full greddy exhaust system and hi-flow jpipe, along with some tein SS suspension..what had happened was i damaged my jpipe by serverly denting it by hitting a sewer cap that was raised when my car was lowered..im guessing that this is what caused the sensors to go bad being that the jpipe was dented so bad the back pressure caused the sensors to fail (i also have my 3rd cat deleted)..since then i reordered and installed a brand new jpipe and then reset the battery..the check engine light went away for about 1400miles and came back on this past sunday, im not completey sure if the dealership would warrenty it..and if they dont i figure changing it myself would save me a lot of money..i just need to figure out which sensors these codes are referring to..i believe the 04-06 TL's come with (4) O2 sensors total (2 sensors on each the primary and secondary cats) should i replace all 4 sensors (approx $300+)? i highly doubt the cats are bad, car only has 37k on it and i only have bolt ons (no forced induction or boost) as i was researching i read somewhere p0420 is bank 1 and p0430 is bank 2..but im not sure if that means all 4 sensors..or just 2 failing ones closest to the jpipe?

Don't replace the sensors, they are telling the truth. You will just waste your money. If you have modified the exhaust then I doubt that Acura will cover it. They are catalyst codes. The codes are refering to the converters not the sensors.

They should cover it even if you have a modifed exhaust... I've got the same mods as the OP, atlp j pipe, greddy exhaust, and they covered all 3 cats replacement. Although if they are both bad, there probably is an underlying problem causing the issues. Mine was due to them troubleshooting my fried PCM and loading up the cylinders with fuel...

OP, why don't you take your car to the dealer if you only have 37,000 miles??
