Power Steering Rack Replacement

Power Steering Rack Replacement
A Service Advisor at my local Acura dealership told me that my power steering fluid is low and that the power steering rack was leaking from both sides, and recommended replacement. It’s a 2006 TL. I was quoted $1,256 for labor and $1,900 for the part for a total of $3,156. That seems outrageous. Anyone else had to have their p/s rack replaced? Thanks

They out to get yeah!
The link below reflects the online price of the (#13) rack, from that specific OEM vendor, before tax / shipping $884.82. Google the part # an you may find it cheaper.

If you want an OEM rack, purchase it and then google your local area for Acura / Honda specialty shops for install and you may save big $$ on labor.
Good Luck!

Not sure what your relationship is with your dealer but if you didn't notice the leaking PS fluid, maybe it isn't that bad??? Maybe checking the fluid level on a regular basis and topping off from time to time ?? I'm sure that would be a more economical solution vs. replacing the rack?? You mentioned it's a 2006, so that makes it 15ish years old. Do you want to invest that kind of $$ into it?? Obviously I have no idea of the condition or other repairs you have done or might be planning on doing. Does it have 40K or 240K miles on it. Just some things to noodle before spending that kind of $$. $0.02
