Power Steering Pump? Hose? No Bueno

So i got back from the dealer due to the srs airbag.. (still covered under lifetime warrenty.. wohoo..) and they noticed a leak under my car, and some muddy stuff on the power steering hoses.. they wanted to charge me 115 to further investigate but i cant afford that right now.. just wondoring if it can be a quick diy fix or is it gonna be a costly repair and weither or not i should still be driving her..

Does it also "whine"?

if so check this out https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/diy-105-power-steering-whine-fix-754586/

Mine whines and is leaking a bit of fluid. I'm unsure if failure to replace this seal would cause a minor leak, but just offering my opinion. Hopefully someone with more experience can correct me.

There is a TSB on the high pressure power steering line that make leak, and cause a fire. I'd check to see if yours has been replaced.

Seeing as you have an 04 there's also a windscreen wiper motor TSB.

Hmm.. It has no whine and i checked the symptioms of that o ring but it all checks out fine.. Also remember brining it in a couple years after i bought it out the lot for the steering recall. Today im going to clean up all the lines and drive it to work and back and see if i can pin point where it is all coming from.. Thnx..

You can try this DIY to rebuild your pump, but my experience went horribly wrong, and I needed a new pump. My main leak was coming from where the 10mm allen bolt underneath.

Yeah I think the whine is only present during cold starts in cold winters. At least that is what it was like when I had my 06. They replaced the hose but the O-ring rotted and the pump was sucking air straight into the PS system.

Were you ever able to find the source of the leak? I think I may have the same issue right now with the '04 I just picked up. Trying to find out if the o-ring is the main culprit, or if we are dealing with something else.

No whining noises (yet), but I did notice all of this fluid and dirt built up around the pump:

Turns out mine is also leaking from somewhere around the rack too. My left front boot is covered in fluid, and still leaking fluid, but I still haven't gotten my high pressure hose replaced under warranty since I my car is currently out of commission. I hope that's where my leak is coming from(fingers crossed). I guess I'll find out when I make the two hour trip to the nearest dealer to get the warranty work done. That won't be until I get all the parts to repair my care.

Mine is the same, however i haven't gotten mine checked out yet. I honestly don't think its fair for the service dept to charge me 120/hr for labor to determine an issue. I'm not sure if this suit follows across all car service depts, but if it takes them 15-20 min to determine the problem they shouldn't charge the whole hour rate /rant. But let me know if you get yours checked out. I just hope it doesnt leak on the cat or go out one day. However one day it was really, really cold and the power steering stopped working. Surprisingly it worked well a few days later.

My power steering reservoir was cracked. When the dealer replaced it, it ran fine, no more whining at all!!
