Power Steering Pump.. Again..!

Alright, so the car is in the shop for power steering pump #3. I bought the car in July of 07 w/ 44k miles; now it has about 82k miles.

I asked about the steering and a whine, and they said it was a bad p/s pump. A while later I took it in for the same issue and p/s hose recall, they replaced the pump again. It's in the shop again, with p/s pump failure verified, they should have ordered the p/s pump today [warehouse was closed yesterday], I have a whine when cornering [again] and when I go to park I often have no steering assist at all [again]; the wheel takes a *lot* of force to turn, unless I move the car forward/back.

Question: Could a bad rack cause problems w/ the P/S pump? What else might be the cause?

I've also had 3 shafts replaced (L-L-R, I believe), and the right front knuckle/hub assembly replaced.

(Since i'm listing things I might as well list the others.. Bad HID ignitor and regulator; nav ecu replaced; bluetooth unit replaced; drivery memory controller replaced.. Oh and what I REALLY like is how often I find lovely gray duct tape used on the wiring in my car.. when I replaced my side markers w/ TLS ones, the wires were rolled in duct tape. When I replaced a CC button, wiring was wrapped in duct tape... wtf?!)

Has anyone else had these issues, and if so, have you had the same issue repeat ?
(I still have a wheel vibration on the freeway and a 'popping' noise that sounds like suspension; but on my last visit they could not verify so I guess i'll just deal with it)

I think acura uses a type of duct tape for those area's so the wires won't rattle against anything and as well since the soy based coating failed (rats ate it, the knock sensors).

They do use gray electrical tape that has a fiber in it that can make it look like duct tape. The new knock sensors have a special wrap on them that has a picture of a mouse with the circle/line through to let you know it is ANTIMOUSE LOL.

I'm assuming you found all the threads regarding the bad O-ring causing a P/S whine, right?

You would think that, but it appears as they have not in the past. Check out this TSB. Concensus says that the new o-ring is orange, and the old one is black. They are of slightly different sizes.

The updated orange o-ring is on the pressure hose. that is also the hose that has the recall. The TSB that tabularasa linked is more than likely your problem. It is on the return hose that attatches to the pump. I took it off myself and matched it up at a local NAPA and have been good ever since.

so does the whine only happen on a cold start or does it go away with driving ???

have you taken the lid off the reservoir to see how the fluid looks inside ???

if the fluid looks bubbly then its the faulty o-ring.....i can bet money on it.....

the whine is because of air leaking into the ps-pump....this happens when either your o-ring is screwed or your lid on the ps-reservoir is loose.....

I have a 05 TL with 100K miles on it and had the same problem....the dealer told me replace the ps-pump ($600), azine told me o-ring is screwed ($0.00)......no points for guessing who was right (azine is right, for people who guessed wrong )

well no more whine.....since you have replaced the pump so many times and done so much shit to the ps....i bet you have air all through your ps system.....i would highly recommend putting in an o-ring and then a ps system flush with new fluid, duh!!! (drain and refill with turning your steering lock to lock so you get all old fluid as well as the air out of your ps system).....

let me know how it goes....

So is this a dealer fix or is it easy "do it yourself" type of job?
