Power Steering problem?

2005 TL
When I am backing out of a parking space, or trying to turn going forward, until I get a little speed it is very difficult to turn the steering wheel. Any idea why this is?

I have the same exact problem!!! I got it checked out and they said the powersteering fluid was leacking due to some hose problem.. and I read that it was one of the defects for recalls on this generation TLs

My car has/had a leak with he PS fluid, but right before I bought it the previous owner said they had just taken it in to have that hose replaced and I do see a new looking hose connected to the PS fluid.
Not sure if I should replace the fluid or what at this point

I had the exact same problem. My car is in the dealer getting this issue fixed atm. They fixed the leak and the defect a couple days ago but my service rep called me today and said they have to replace the power steering pump as well. I'll report back once I pick up my car tomorrow.

I did this TSB recall in 2007 on my 2004TL and it still does the same thing...I'm sure there's still a leak somewhere since I need to add some fluid once in a while...

Anyway it's not major just frustrating !

lol this is not a problem.

all 3rd gen TL's have stiff steering during low to no speed.
Lucky for me, i have a third pedal and a quick blip of the gas makes the steering much easier

I see, well hopefully I can confirm that the apparent leak the vehicle had is gone and then I wont worry about it, it will make my arms stronger!

Also check the tire pressure. I notice that when the fronts are down a little on my 2004 TL the steering becomes very heavy when the car is standing still.

Is this related to the PS hose recall?

i dont believe so because my 05 tl PS had the recall done and it was a different part of the PS hose

2005-08 RL but similar to a TL

That hose did look newer on mine as well so I assumed it was the one that had been changed, I will be replacing the o-ring as the leak I have was obviously the same as the one in the video

x2.

My own habits adjusted so that now I almost never encounter this. That being said it did used to worry me--that was 30k miles ago, and no problems today.

Also, ultra-sticky tires don't help the situation.

If it ain't the O-ring then check the steering rack. I just had mine replaced because it was busted. The leakage was there for me.

what color is the power steering fluid? Try turning the tires (drive up on some cardboard) and look at the power steering fluid, is it bubbling?

Also if the fluid looks dirty it might be good to change it out with some new honda fluid.

If steering is hard to turn when parking its because the pump is failing . If you use aftermarket pump sometimes the problem might be the pump. Sometimes you get a bad reman pump . If you are parked and turn the whedl at idle and its hard to turn but when you rev the engine to about 3 k and tutn the wheel and it turns easier then its the pump going bad.
Hopefully it makes sence .

3g tl heavy power steering fix

so iv finally fixed the lack of power steering when i try to park or steer my 2007 tl(190km) at low or no speed. iv tried all if the possible fixes except (ps pump and steering rack) up till last week. Well this week i decided give this issus another go by chamging the ps pump (2 times) just to be 100% sure it was not at fault. Well the pump was not at fault. I seriously considered moving on to the rack but hesitated due to the high cost of part and labour. My mechanic recommended that i avoid this action because he detected no visible leaks and little wear through the unit. So after some more searching i found a thread where it was suggested that the power steering pressure sensor (pss30) might be at fault. This turned out to be a really cheap part so i thought why not. Well 1 week after i got this part replaced, im happy to report that my steering has been a one hand operation even while parking everytime .

There won't be any check engine light for the switch, even if you disconnect it.

mine is just super hard, Weird thing is that there is no whining, just no power steering. Could it be the ps pump? I have no leaks, all the fluid is still there.
