power steering - is this normal?
When the car isn't moving and I turn the wheel, it's kinda stiff. Feels like turning the steering wheel in my CRX, which doesn't have power steering (but is very light and doesn't need it) - i know the PS is working at least to a certain degree in the TL because it's much harder to turn the wheel with the engine off but it seems to me it should be a little easier than it is. Anyone else experience a little stiffness when stopped or at slow speeds?
(edit)
Should add that yes, the PS hose recall has been done already.

Sounds pretty normal to me. It is always much easier to turn the steering wheel of a car in motion. You are trying to move the steering gear with the dead weight of the front end on top of it. I was taught that you never turn the steering wheel with the car standing still, except maybe when parking. It's not particularly good for your front tires, and on bare concrete you'll leave black marks that won't endear you to whoever owns it.

yeah, generally I don't turn the wheel while sitting still, but sometimes you're in tight spaces where you have to. Besides, the front tires suck anyway, and are getting replaced within the month.
I didn't think it was a problem, but just wanted to make sure. I'm probably spoiled by my MR2, which has power steering and no engine in front. Effortless.

I have the same issue. I've never had to use so much force when turning the steering wheel in any care I've had. I thought the power steering was off, but I drove another Type S and it felt the same.

You should avoid turning your front wheels when your car is not moving. This puts a great deal of stress on the steering gear and its components, not to mention the tires. Only turn your front wheels when your vehicle is in motion and then only at a "normal" rate. By "normal", I mean if you are barely moving, don't turn your steering wheel fast.

I also had the same problem with the power steering on my 05 TL....I brought the car for service at the dealer and they replaced the power steering hose and the power steering pump...I noticed the change right away........ I would bring it in for service if I was you.

I think it's normal. Mine is a little stiff but does def has power steering. I prefer the feeling of the steering in the TL than any other car I've gotten into. You feel the road more.

to me, it's slightly floaty when the car's rolling, but then I'm used to an MR2, which is a whole 'nother category of handling.
