Power Steering and Motor Mounts

Hey all,

Quick question that many of you probably will easily understand/know the answer to.

I noticed my power steering hose has been leaking. The area around it is greasy/gross.

I also found the TSB for the safety recall and am planning on having it done soon.

from this (hope link works) http://techinfo.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SB/b08-016.pdf

it LOOKS to me like they have to take off/remove/uninstall some of the motor mounts in order to do the power steering project. I'm assuming that if i pay/provide the parts, they should replace the motor mounts (if they indeed do have to remove them) free of any labor charge, since it would just be a matter of installing new ones instead of reinstalling the old ones.

Is this correct?

Thanks guys!

many tech's don't go by the book and remove the mounts and weave the new pipe through. I would talk to the service writer with that TSB in hand and show them that motor mount removal is required, and ask them if you bought some new motor mounts, could they be installed at the same time and save labor costs?
IMO don't mention bringing them in yourself since the writer will see the $$$ from selling marked up motor mounts and probably say yes. When he does ask if he can write it down so you don't get screwed when you do bring it in for an appointment. Schedule one and on the day of it, bring in some new motor mounts!

Thanks for the input!

I think I will have to do that. my car has 110k miles and I doubt the motor mounts have been changed...

Anyone know the part numbers those motor mounts? (the ones in the directions for the Safety Recall)? I know there are a few different ones.

Update:

I'm at the dealer currently waiting on my car to be done (3 hours labor)

I asked about the motor mounts, and the service rep took the TSB and went to go speak with the technician. He came back and told me the tech said he would work around that, they weren't going to be removing any motor mounts. I probably could have fought it and told them that the repair directions from Honda say they had to, but I gave in because I'm tired of being without my car (just picked it up from the body shop after a week) and just want all the major issues resolved.

Motor mounts aren't all that difficult to replace. You can rent most of the tools from Autozone for free + Acurazine = done deal.

Yeah, in the beginning I figured it would be an easy task to just ask them to do it... But honestly I don't even know if they're cracked or damaged. I'll just wait till the weather is tolerable and tackle the job myself if they really need to be done

Well, after waiting about 3 hours I asked about the status of my car

Apparently the power steering pump itself was also leaking. So my service rep spoke with someone from some department and they agreed to replace the pump as well, free of charge!

But...I got another 45 minutes to wait apparently lol. It's been about 3 hours so far.

All in all, RADLEY ACURA FTW. Getting a free wash and vacuum too, as always.

i recently noticed my power steering making more noise. and i told the people changing my oil. they said the pump might have a leak since there was some dust stuck to the pump. as if the pump had oil on it, then dust stuck to the oil.

i am out of warranty, are you saying there is some sort of recall where i can get it replaced for free? this would be awesome, because i have no idea where to look for a new pump for cheap.

thank you.

There is a recall on the power steering pump FEEDER HOSE for I almost all 04-08 TLs. If you haven't had this recall addressed already, the dealer will replace the feeder hose for you for free. That is what happened to me. I think I got lucky and they also replaced my power steering pump because it was leaking, and I guess the somehow blamed it on the feeder hose. I doubt this is standard procedure though, and they might want to charge you.

Your best bet is to go to the dealer and ask if the safety recall has been performed already on your car. They'll look it up using the VIN#. If not, then tell them to do it, and if there are any other parts that need to be replaced, to ask you before doing any additional work. and go from there.

Good luck!
