Possible to replace steering wheel cover?

I have an 04 TL with 200k+ miles, and the steering wheel cover (the piece with the Acura logo that you press on to honk the horn) has a crack in it. I would like to replace that piece, however when I called the Acura dealer they told me that the piece I want to replace is part of the airbag and could not be purchased individually. If I can find the part on eBay or from someone with a totalled car, am I able to replace this piece without risk of messing up my airbag? If so, does anyone have a guide out there? I ran a search and found mention of others having this issue, but could not find any links to how to replace it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The dealer is right. It's part of the airbag. If you want to replace it, you'll have to replace the airbag.

You can actually replace it if you can find one online for cheap and in good condition.

try searching on this site
ahparts.com

i've gotten a couple of items from this site. Mind you most of the vehicles have been totalled but you might find one that may not of had its airbag deployed.
