Possible motor mount issue?

Good morning AZ folks. I’m a long time lurker but first time poster - thanks for all the help you provide. I’ve been reviewing posts related to this issue in here for the past couple hours and wanted to make sure this is the same problem others are having.

My 2004 TL (AT with 83k miles) has been for the past month making a vibrating and rough idle feeling when in reverse gear. It does not do this when in neutral or any other gear. It sounds quite (for its age) in park, but when I shift into reverse it starts vibrating and doing the rough idle shake. When I am backed out of my driveway and back in drive it stops.

Others have suggested passenger motor mount in previous threads. Would this be the same issue? I have a video I can post but it doesn’t quite pick up the vibrating sounds.

Thank you for any advice!

Does the vibration always happen when you put it in reverse or mainly after a cold start? I had a similar issue on cold starts and replaced my tensioner assembly and belt. During this process, I also found that my side motor mount was shot and replaced that, too.

I would put the hood up and visually inspect this area when you start it and have someone put it in reverse while you're looking at it. If it's the problem I had, you'll see that one of the pulleys on the tensioner is vibrating. I was able to see my motor mount was bad because the top of it was completely cracked.

Hi spamcop01, yes, that is exactly what it does! It is only when put in reverse and seems to only happen when a cold start. Thank you for the information, I will examine the engine when I get off work.

Not sure that you're motor mount is part of the problem, but this is what mine looked like. Replacing it solved my "extra clunk" sound when going over bumps.

Not sure, but I think you need to upload the video someplace like YouTube and then you can paste the link to it in your post.
