How do you know it's the O2 sensor? There are other things that can cause that code. I'm only asking so that you don't go spend your money on unnecessary parts.

Do you have any other DTCs? If not, then you should perform the troubleshooting steps in the attachment from the service manual. I also got this code and a valve clearance adjustment fixed it.

You can reset the PCM without an HDS by disconnecting the negative battery cable for like a minute.

Thanks for the reply bro. There isnt any other DTC popping up. I cleared the light and it hasnt come back on yet. If it does come on p0174 only again i will go ahead with the o2 sensor change im getting it for $120 at Honda. I just need to know the exact part number so i know im getting the right sensor.

Yeah, that's possible. You also might need a software update. I don't think the TSB specified the 2004 model years, but I would take it to a dealer and make sure it's up to date just in case.

If it still comes back, I would start with the fuel pressure. I think if anything else was wrong, you would get a different DTC also.

ok do they charge you for a software update? I have a friend thats a tech at Honda, he said mostly likely a vacume leak. But I will take it to the dealer as soon as this snow stops.. Thanks

^Vacuum leak sounds like it can certainly cause this, especially on both banks now (got worse?). Honestly, I don't know enough about how the ECM/PCM uses all the sensor input to throw these codes. The manual says check fuel pressure first and makes no mention of a vacuum leak so I am forced to assume that one of the other DTCs on that list would be thrown if there was a vacuum leak. This is all theory and I'm going to stop rambling now.

The software update is like a 0.2 hour labor charge per the TSB. So it's not free, but it's pretty cheap still. If you're a regular at that dealer, they might do it for free. Or you can try to negotiate. I'm willing to bet that they've probably fixed/improved a few other things since then so the software addresses more than just the sensor input usage.

This is the TSB from another thread.

Haha, I knew it. Doesn't apply to 04-06 models. Well go in anyway and see if there is one.

Yea you should go and update the software anyway.. Software update is only for 07-08 according to my local Acura dealer.
