Pinging noise , tried everything
I have since july on my 2005 TL AT, 45000 miles, a pinging noise.
THey changed the famous heat shield, i drove without it for few miles and the noise is still there.
I can hear it clearly around 2000 rpm and until 4000 rpm
When i put the transmission in Neutral, no noise.
It's not a regular noise, i mean the frequency doesn't increase with speed or engine revolution.
It's not regular like every 2 seconds, sometimes every 3 seconds afte 1 seconds another click etc...
it's a kind of metallic noise, the same kind you hear if you knock two keys on eachother.
Acura don't find the problem and after few months they say it's normal behavior for this kind of car bla bla bla.
What would you advice me ? try another dealer ? any idea what to investigate.
I ve always used 91, i tried 93 and nothing has changed.
THank you, i'm realy desesperate, i'm going to change soon my car and i'm afraid of the buyers reaction when they will hear this sound.
I really like to buy a 2007 TL and know i begin to think that i'm ready to try not so reliable car like BMW or Audi.

I recently took my car into the shop for defective struts and got a 2006 TL for loaner. I heard the same exact noise around low RPM, except this loaner does it in every gear and every RPM. It sounds like who metalic parts hitting each other, sort of like keys or quaters. The sad thing is loaner only has 3600 miles on it. I am not too sure but it sounds like the tranny.

I just had my car in for a similar noise, it was definitely the heat shield issue.
The heat shield is designed to be loose and move around some while installed.
The Acura service manual suggests that the tech use a tool called a "Chassis Ear" and listen for problems if the heat shield fix doesn't solve your problem.
I would suggest they try this.
I'm thinking you still have the heat shield pinging noise, that their "fix" didn't fix the issue after all. I wonder if it's possible to remove the heat shield and see if the noise goes away... then you'd know for sure what the root problem is.
They're chasing their tails looking for other things when it's still the heat shield.

I have the same issue that "sebounet2005" has, same pinging noise, same rpms, did the same with the gas, tried 4 different gas companies, no change and got same idiotic answer from dealer, who according to them, answer came from ACURA Canada.
I will not let it go. This si not a "Yugo", this car cost decent money. If anybody has an answer to this it would be really appreciated if you share it, as I'm sure we are more than a couple people frustrated with this situation. This is my first Acura and may be the last. Hope not as I'm very happy with all the rest. Thanks in advance!!!

I have an 06 TL purchased used with 15K miles. With the right side windows open and driving by a brick wall, I can hear a distinct noise like pinging (1500-2500 RPM). Most bothersome. Pinging serious. So I told Acura service about the problem with the intermediate shaft bearing heat shield noted above. Service rep very familiar with problem. "Sometimes they are like that when new from factory" he said. Very common problem. Fixed under original warranty. Thanks AcuraZine for very valuable info. Yes I tried different gas brands, Chevron and Shell highest octane, to no avail.
