Passenger Door Ajar

I just started having a new problem with my 04 TL. Whenever I hit bump or stop quickly the passenger door ajar warning and overhead light comes on. The door is definitely closed so I am assuming it is the sensor. Has anyone else seen this problem?

the sensor might be bent, if you open the door and look in the door frame, you will see a back color knob that has ribbed black colored plastic over it, this is the sensor that the door pushes on to give the closed signal.

Passender Door Ajar

csmeance,

Thanks, I found the sensor and it was slightly bent. The design placement of the sensor was poor since it strikes the edge of the plastic door skin to activate. Half of the sensor does not touch anything and after awhile the sensor started to bend and slip off of the plastic when we hit bumps or stopped quickly. I repositioned the sensor slightly and it fixed the problem for now. I might have to replace it or add something to the plastic to extend the edge.

I'm having the same problem with my 07 TL-S after only 1500 miles. Also the door open light comes on if the passenger leans on the armrest on the door. I looked at the sensor knob but didn't see any problems.

I guess I'll have to go to the dealer and see if they can adjust the door. Kind of disappointing since the doors should fit properly on a new Acura.

Passenger Door Ajar

drdr,

Sounds like you might need to get your door latch adjusted since it may have some play and allow for the sensor to open. You may also want to check to see how much of the sensor tip is hitting the plastic door skin. If the design hasn't changed from '04 it only touches an an edge and any misalignment of the sensor will make the problem more prevalent. I put some Vaseline on the tip of the sensor and shut the door to find out where the two parts met. I was able to adjust the sensor enough to eliminate the problem on my car. It certainly is annoying driving at night and having the light flash on and off. Good luck.

I was experienceing a similar problem on my 06 TL. My door ajar would not activiate if the passenger rear door was opened. Actually solved the problem by loosen the mounting screw completely and tightening it back up. Seems the issue was a poor or bad ground.

Thanks, WOtt. I think I will just take it back to the dealer and have them check the door latch since it is under warranty.

Went to the dealer last week. They adjusted the door latch and the problem is solved. No more door ajar light going around corners.
