P0741...disheartening.

P0741 torque converter clutch stuck off. Cleared the code to make sure it wasn't a hiccup. Driving next day, boom stuck in 4th gear in the fast lane. Shudder centra! This shit will not shift into any gears!!!! Pull over, turn it off, turn it back on. magically rolls and shifts to second and third. realize i dont want to do further damage i get it towed, check the tranny fluid. It's burnt! I don't want to shelve out $2800 for a reconditioned tranny at the moment. Is it worth it to try my odds by doing a 3x3 drain and pressure switches when I know the inevitable! Or am I wasting time and money thinking this could be a fix. Everything cycles fine when cold. no flashing lights, hell my cel isn't even on. Any insite or things to check before i replace this transmission? The mechanic said that there isnt enough pressure for it to shift when hot. Getting quotes and will report back!

Check out this post I wrote on the Honda Pilot forum http://www.piloteers.org/forums/14-p...ode-p0730.html. You may want to try cleaning those filters I described. The pilot transmission is very similiar to the TL I believe (they both had the same recall as well). The filters were not documented anywhere for the Pilot and they are not as far as I can tell for the TL.

When that was happening with my car it wasn't the transmission. The symptoms that you're describing sound more like "safe mode" than a transmission. The app sensor was my problem - have your mechanic test it.

Not sure what the code was - my mechanic dealt with it. It kept telling him "bad throttle body," so he replaced it 3 times with no luck. I read about the APP sensor on here, and that was it.

I got it warrantied for 3yrs/36k miles. what really is the failure point if we are on top of maintenance?
