Overheating
Hi,
My 2005 TL overheated on a trip from Montreal to NYC. The trick of turning the heater on didn't work. We simply kept on receiving cold air in the car. Then engine light went on while we we were driving. As a matter of fact, a few blocks before we got to our destination, the car simply stopped and shutdown. We let the car cool down and on the next day we added coolant. It was missing for some reason although I had a tune up 1 month ago. We brought the car to an Acura dealer to get it checked on December 31. They didn't find anything wrong with the car, no radiator leak nothing. I suspect it was because of the holiday coming up. We decided to drive back to Montreal on January 1st. Mind you, the temperature difference between both cities, we went from +5C to -15C. A 20 degrees difference. During half of our drive the thermostat did not work. We had no heat and were receiving a stream of cold air. Moreover the temperature needle stayed on Cold.
We managed to get to destination "ok". We brought the car again to a Canadian Acura dealer to find out our radiator was leaking and that our engine is busted.
I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar symptoms where the heat is not working and that engine temperature stays on Cold while driving for hours? Also anyone would know of a good Acura garage in the Montreal area?
I am starting to not trust Acura dealers. They all have different ways of troubleshooting.
Thank you

Exact problem:

When the temp gauge rises, better stop the car immediately as the high temp/overheating will cause major problems if the car is continuously operated.
A low water level will cause no heat and with the thermostat in the open position the engine will run cold. In the other thread you'll notice they felt heat only when the car went up an incline as with the nose up water will flow through the heater core, but when going downhill or on a level surface, the water lever is too low to get to the core. In some cases, a severly low condition won't allow the water to even reach the sensor to even register on the gauge.
Poor timing after the holiday's, but sorry to say, have some money ready.

NEVER keep driving when you notice the temp needle rising. Its a sign that there is a problem. Stop the car and shut it off. Unfortunately for you its time to open your wallet.
