Orange Transmission Light
My orange transmission light came on while driving. I have 05 TL with 60,000 miles. Should I be concerned about driving it? Do I need a tune up or do i need to replace my transmission fluid. Is there a way to reset it or can this only be done by the dealer. Sorry if this question was asked already but I didn't not find anything when I did a search. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think our cars have a yellow transmission light... Are you sure it's not a Check Engine Light?

Thanks for responding. I guess its a check engine light, I don't have my manual to verify but I assumed it was a transmission light. Since its an engine light should I be concerned? I didn't get gas recently so I dont think it my gas cap. I always make sure I hear the clicks when closing lid. Can it be my oxygen sensor already? It only has 60,000. Again thanks for your response,

But it's solid the you can go to autozone or pep-boys or an auto store and they can read the code for you, usually they will do it for free. Make sure to write down the code and as well ask them what it means. Post that code/s back here and what they said and we can try to help!
In the mean time I would try not to drive it around to much in case it is something bad. Also have you noticed the car driving a bit differently such as going through a lot of fuel, driving rough, etc?

actually from my experience when the D light flashes while your driving it means......you better start praying cuz its usually catastrophic tranny failure. just had two replaced before 72K miles on my 06. maybe they will goodwill the repair on an 05 at dealer?

Really! Oh man! That's not good. But ever since I put coolant the blinking went away.
I hope that my tranny is not on the way out. How did you know your tranny was going bad? Did your car start to run funny or did your engine light go on or both?

slipping and free reving while in gear. and lights flashing. yeah on any of these lights always reset as first option and see if the light returns. these cars are sensitive to electrical deviations and may just be a fault that doesnt return. its when they return that you need to start action.

Blinking D does not mean catastrophic failure, it just means that the transmission had in internal issue that could be a simple electrical one light a loose sensor or something major.
Here the problem is related to a 40 dollar switch malfunctioning:

Yeah, my CEL went away recently, but the issues with my transmission only got worse.. Thus, just because the light went on, went off, and didn't come back on doesn't mean all is well...

I spoke to the Parts department today and they said I need to replace my Shiftlock Selenoid. He said usually the "CEL" comes on if you spill any liquids or over spray the gearshift area with a cleaning product. He said it usaully short curciut right away or sometime when it corrodes. There are two parts that may need to be replaced. One for $113 and the other is for $66. He advised to purchase the Sticklock Solenoid first and if that works then I'm fine if not then I would have to purchase the other item for $66. I asked him if this is something I should be concerned about and he said I would need to replace it soon but it shouldnt affect my transmission. He just told me not to use my sport shifter until I replace the items. I never use my SS anyway. Does anyone know if there is a DYI which shows how I can get to my gear box? Thanks guys
