Oil level issue (on a road trip) advice?

So I have an 08 base with just over 67 on it. I got the oil changed in Greensboro, nc before I left 2 weeks ago and I have checked it 4 times since then. Each time, the oil has been spot on at the correct level on the dip stick so no worries. These places it was checked were all under 1,000 feet...

So now I am in Colorado springs, co at an elevation of 6200 and I checked the oil this morning and it is over! It's over by a fair amount too. I didn't add any oil to the car...

Does altitude affect the reading of oil on the dipstick?

it shouldn't. are you sure you're checking it on a level surface? Even a slight tilt can make all the difference.

No. Goes without saying, but make certain you're on level ground.

To get a good reading, I have to let my oil "settle down" for a few minutes after running the car. Wait a few minutes on level ground and it should read fine. If you're still having issues, you can stop by my house since you're in Colorado Springs. (I'll be the only house in my neighborhood that actually flies the flag at half staff until noon, then moves it to full staff after noon.)

Good call on the level ground. Never even thought about it since I'm always in my garage back home. I'm clearly parked on a hill haha. So I see a flat area of the hotel lot from the window so I'll check it out.

And @pat04tl, this is a nice area here. I'm about to go get a car wash (I hit every bug from Kansas to CO) then head to pikes peak and such.

Thanks fellow owners.

Sounds like a good plan. On the way back down Pikes Peak, use lower gears to take care of your brakes. Enjoy!
