Noise at freeway speed

So when I drive about freeway speed 60-75mph I hear some sounds coming from the front passenger side. I can't tell if it has to do with a wheel bearing or serpentine belt or possible CV/axle issue. (At idle I believe there's a bit of squeaking or abnormal sound coming from the serpentine belt, but that's another issue.)

The sound varies depending on which freeway I'm on, and here in CA we have some great roads...

The sound is almost like you can hear something turning, similar to what a wheel bearing sounds like when it's giving out (at least from what I remember on my Civic when I needed it replaced). My 08 TL is at 69xxx miles, so I'm guessing the wheeling bearing might be going?

The TL is alot quieter than the Civic I used to drive so that "airplane takeoff" sound of a wheel bearing going out is less noticeable. Any ideas? May just take it to dealer and see what they think.

I think I have this same problem. It doesn't happen all the time though, only randomly.

Hope you get the issue sorted out OP.

check the tires, it does make similar sound to bad wheel bearing. Bridgeston knowing to be most noisy tire, I never use them again.

Tires seem to be fine. I do need an oil change done so I'll have the tires rotated as I didn't do it for the last B1 when I changed it.

Welp looks like it's a tire issue. Tire going bad and created a dip in the center so I'm getting air pocket noise.

So what's the best all season tire? Looking for quiet ones.

Go take a look at Tirerack and they have some decent tires. Under most popular are some Sumitomos. I ordered a set for just under $400. Can't beat that

What tires did you opt for?

Currently there are some Dunlops on mine, forget the exact model

I went with these:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ModClar=Type-S

I have Nitto Motivos on right now and previous owner drove on them with messed up alignment so they are all feathered up and sound like helicopter on the freeway lol

I got positive experience with Dunlop, Continental and Michellin in term of road noise. It doesn't help when you living in a city where street/highway is made by concrete slap instead of asphaut (spell check). Bridgeston is the worst for noise, your tire could be looking fine but until the wheel rolling the noise is there, I have the same dilema in my IS300 right now.

Yeah, besides that one tire, road noise isn't too bad. The tires are quite old though. The fronts are a 3/32nd, and the rears are at 5/32nd according to dealer. And I trust these guys since I used to work there a few years back so I still get pretty good prices.

Considering how dry the CA is right now with almost no predicted rain in the near future, I'll drive these for as long as I can, maybe another 2mo or so. Until then I'll research some more tires.

Might take a look at Costco and compare to Tirerack, see what I can find. I never ordered from TireRack before, how quick do they ship and all that?

Thanks for the suggestions S2K_MoZo and truonghthe.

Wow that's quick. You must live pretty close to their warehouse or something to get them that quickly

I thought about it too and the guy suggested some burnouts to even the wear but the tires with feathering and all cause vibrations and I hear rattles from things I don't like so I'd rather just replace tires and have a rattle free car over everything in car rattling lol

Although, for me, it's 2 tires and my tires have plenty of life left looking at them but those feathered tire vibrations are a killer!

Yeah it did get a bit worse as time moved on which is why I thought it was a wheel bearing at first. So far the sound isn't all too bad and the vibration isn't terrible, yet.

Definitely start looking into getting some new tires for the car soon. Just gotta find a set that suits my needs; quietness and longevity.

I'll second Sumitomo. The HTR ZIII are a phenomenal tire for the money.

How many miles have you put on them?

Reading some reviews of the tire on TireRack and have read some good and not so good things. Although all the not-so-good things I've read on them were in states that have pretty severe weather considered to what we get in CA. Any significant increase in road noise after the first 10,000-15,000 miles?

So I'm looking at Grand Touring All-Season tires too. Anyone run these on their TL? Any noticeable difference in noise reduction compared to an ultra high performance all season tire?

Costco has the Michelin-Primacy MXM4 cheaper than Tirerack by about $130 right now. I may just opt for those.

I'm leaning towards the Michelin Super Sports. I read a few good reviews on those at TireRack and considering the dry climate here in CA, I think they might be the best fit.

Anyone here running those tires?

There are a bunch of threads going over this in the Tires and Wheels section!

I got Michellin Primacy MXM4 for the front and rear until Houston pot holes claimed my front left, I now have Michellin Pilot Super Sport for front tires. Dry grip gain is significant if not superb comparing to my previous set, I almost curb my wheel the other night trying tackle a corner at 75mph (I didn't anticipate the grip that much and get used to my old tires) Wet grip is ok so so with the rear. Road noise there almost no difference in road noise before and after, I got really good experience from the super sport since it was on my IS300 before. My IS 300 got Potenza RE050A RFT for the front, the grip is similar to Super Sport but when wet it grip better however the noise is killing me right now, its 10 times noisier than my Super Sport.

Reading good things about the Super Sport so I'm leaning towards those. Not too expensive and seem to be great value.

Sorry for the thread lurker here, but I just recently got some Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season (non plus) and can say with initial certainty that they are MUCH quieter than the previous Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires I had on the car. And I don't just mean switching from the old and worn tire. The DWS were *always* noisy to me.

Tire rack surveys have the P7 All Season Plus as the best rated Grand Touring tire on their site currently, and the P7 All Season as #10 out of ~30. I called Pirelli to find out the differences between the non-plus and the plus, but haven't heard back yet

Anyway, I'm VERY impressed with the P7 All Seasons so far in terms of noise and steering response. They are a very comfortable tire as well. I got nothing on wet or snow traction yet however.

No need to apologize, the information you posted is helpful to me. So thank you for that!

Admittedly not many, but I have highway, town, and track use on them and they've been excellent.

I've been running Sumitomo tires for more than 15 years. I've always liked them.

Pirelli Cinturato P7 plus is alittle lighter and offer less resistance when rolling that is some thing I can recall on top of my head tho.

I am looking at grand touring set of wheels as I think that offers the best longevity and ride comfort. Though I haven't made a decision yet.

Even now with my worn down Dunlops I think the ride comfort is good. I can only imagine what a new set would do and if I were to get a quality new set of tires. Would probably feel like a brand new car
