Noise
Noise
I have a 2008 Acura tl. It has 140,000 miles on it and I purchased it at about 120. No mechanical issues since I've bought it but recently it started making a noise when I reach about 40 miles per hour. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it sounds almost like I'm going over rumble strips. It doesn't last long maybe a second or two. Other than that my car seems to be in great condition any ideas what it could be?
Sounds like torque converter shudder. Automatic transmission? Does it happen at light acceleration and low rpm? If so, have you done a 3x3 ATF drain and fill? AT pressure switches replacement is also a good idea with the ATF change.

Yes automatic, and yes at low rpm. Do you know the cost of something like that? I haven't done a 3x3 but I am going to take it into the Acura dealership soon. The pressure switches sound expensive. But at least it's not a major fix!! Thanks for your response, I'm very relieved to know it's not a transmission problem!!
How long has this noise been happening? It's a good idea to do the 3x3 drain/fill and change the pressure switches even if they are not the source of this noise since it's a common problem on 04-08 automatic TLs. The pressure switches are around $30 each so not too expensive. I would also ask the dealership to rule out the axles and/or engine mounts causing some sort of resonance vibration at the speed you mentioned.
