New TL Owner In Need Of Some Help
Hey Guys,
I have been browsing the forums here for a few days and decide to join. I have owned my 2004 SSM TL 5AT now for about a week. I am all together very pleased with the car. I notice a few rattles here and there but when the weather gets better I will work on fixing those. In my reading I noticed I am not the only one, but this does not discourage me at all from my purchase. I however was looking for some advice on the 5th gear issue when cruising at 50-60MPH. I have read about the vibration issue at 1500RPM because of a motor mount. I have found the service bulletin and now my question on this is this. Has anyone had this bulletin addressed on their car? Is this like a recall where it's done for free or do we have to pay for this? If so, how much does it cost on average to get this addressed? I really don't like to put the car in sport shift mode and have to cruise in 4 just to eliminate the vibration. Anyway hope someone can shed some light on the subject.
Thank you

I don't have the problem, so cannot comment on that.
But, a TSB is something short of a recall. Acura is not required to notify owners, fixing it for free is not mandatory, it is often not safety related, etc.
With a TSB, you normally have to show up and complain about the problem. Even then, you sometimes have to call the dealer's attention to the TSB.
If you car is under warranty, exhibits the problem and is within the VIN range of the TSB it will be covered under warranty. If you are outside of warranty or outside of the VIN range, the dealer or regional rep may authorize the repair under "good will".

Ok, damn this kinda sucks because I just crossed 50k miles the other day so now the warranty is up. Can you explain "good will" to me. Do you mean basically like a hook up that they will take care of it?

Alright, Thanks bearcat for the information. I'll shoot up to the acura dealer here in a few days to get the oil changed and what not and see what they can do. Is there a listing somewhere of all the known service bulletins.

List of TSB's for the TL here:

I suggest you print out the one(s) that applies and bring it with you. Double check the VIN range so you know for sure if your car is specifically included.
Good Luck.

Awesome! Want to thank you again bearcat for the help. I try my best to use the search feature on the forum to find my own answers but glad you linked me to that page with the service bulletins because I never crossed it in the hours of browsing I have done so far in the past few days. Thanks again
