New TL... Or at least new to me..

After owning an old Legend and an Accord both from the early 90s. Dealing with the pleasure of a wobbly Impala for 3.5 years I came back to the dark side. 2007 TL 126k (Mid-Ohio region) clean title (no accidents, but nothing to speak of as far as maintenance records) for just over $8k. Test drive was great and the car has been for the most part... now for the bad... 4th to 3rd gear down shifts seem unusually hard and come, early? It is the best way I can explain. Hot drained the tranny fluid, lots of build-up on the drain plug and the fluid was obviously bad. No non-Honda tranny fluid on Sunday bought 4 quarts of Castrol Import, that listed DW-1 but also said no CVTs, (yes four drained out) and filled, carefully checking level. Seems much cleaner when checking the dipstick and all was well... till my drive home today. Had a couple of less than comfortable shifts in traffic (nothing earth shattering, but I feel it lurking...) on the way home.

My question is this. How many times do I have to change the tranny fluid before I could consider it all swapped? I have a feeling someone made have used the wrong fluid or at very least not changed it recently. The clips to remove the aero panel looked supa fresh but also had been pryed once at least so at worst looking at 110k on the same fluid.

Should I consider a cleaning agent? Have seen a few mentioned....

Did I just buy a train wreck for almost 10k? It seems so purty and nice and well maintained everywhere else....

When changing tranny fluid it's at least 2, you'll see a lot of people recommending 3 though.
Procedure in dealers (not Acura specific, I don't know their procedure but I imagine it's similar) is flush completely, fill, flush again, fill.

ALSO, QUICK, 3rd and 4th gear pressure switch for your AT TL! You don't want the tranny to fail on you and stop working.

You are a life saver this is exactly what is wrong. It doesn't feel terrible. Can I limp along tonight till I can get to a dealer tomorrow to get the part?

It should be fine. Don't go pedal to the metal and try to switch gears as nicely as possible. It's a stupid issue that plagues most (if not all) of the TL owners eventually.

Also would you recommend pulling the filter? Can you just drop the pan like other cars?

Welcome to the forums.

These are the correct part numbers for the 07-08 TL and also note that you need 2 of one of the switches.

28600-RKE-004 (2) SWITCH
28610-RKE-004 (1) SWITCH
sealing gasket (90471-PW7-A00) (3)
