New OEM axle leaking

hey everyone I installed a passenger axel for my Type S 6MT about 2 weeks ago and I started smelling a strange smell after driving car. So I went and looked underneath and noticed this mess. It looks like the axel has started leaking and I don’t understand how. Take a look at the picture and let me know what u think. I will be lifting that side in a few and going to clean everything up to get a better look.

Well, that is unlucky. I would call up/visit the place you bought it and ask for a refund on the part.

If you did the job yourself, do you think there's anyway you could have snagged that boot while installing?

If a shop replaced it - after inspecting for damage, I would speak to them about what they can do to help you out.

Axle grease is also really hard to clean up. Be prepared for a shitty time.

Since it's brand new all you need is a new boot/grease + labor time. Don't wait too long or moisture will get in. The installer may have damaged it upon install.

Not an easy replacement as the axle needs to come apart.

Don't use a split boot.

Cardone axles from rockauto, about $62 and $54 respectively. Those prices are for new, not rebuilt!

Probably the boot was torn before you installed it.
Out of all the axles i've replaced, and trust me, I was not gentle. The boots never broke.

Very good point!! Really hard to believe that the boot was torn during the install. My boots are original and have survived 271K miles and 14 years with no tears so far.
