Logged on as I was experiencing some difficulty deciding between buying a 2004 TL or a 2003 GS-300. As I perform 90% of all repairs/maintenance, I wanted to know common problems. Having been a Legend owner for over 12 years, I had wanted to stay with the brand. After reading about all the problems with the TL, you have made my decision to buy a GS-300 much easier. Will miss having an "A" emblem sitting in drive.

Hi welcome, and sorry to see your decision. Did you visit the lexus boards? Also what problems did you see? Excluding the Types -S issues since it was a totally redesigned car, and all redesigned cars have problems that are later corrected in the second year, but what problems? The rattles are a simple fix, if you are worried about those.

I have been engaged in the decision process for the past few months and have reviewed all the information I have been able to procure pertaining to the vehicles in which I was interested. This includes frequenting various Lexus forums. It does appear as if Acura build quality has suffered; my 1992 Legend LS Coupe (123k miles) has no rattles or squeaks. The Legend has other issues, e.g. BHG, A/T rear mount failure, and coolant by-pass O-ring seepage, which has resulted in the Legend requiring more time and maintenance than my Maxima or 540. Quite a surprise. My major concern with the 2004 TL is the A/T. Although Acura appears to have designed a repair, I have to question whether this particular repair will be sufficient to keep the vehicle in service well beyond the warranty period. I am not willing to "bet the farm" on this.
