Need some help with SRS DTC 3-1, 3-2 and 8-1

So long story short. I bought a vehicle with a flood title. Saw pictures of the damage and there was a dinner plate size puddle in the driver foot well. Water never got to any electronics. I've been driving the car for almost a year now with zero issues except the srs light is on. So I'd like to take care of it.

When I bought the car, the srs light was not on then on the way home it suddenly came on. The driver seat was unplugged (power, srs etc). I assume the place I bought the car from never plugged it back in after drying the carpet.

So now I have srs DTC 3-1, 3-2 and 8-1. I replaced both side impact sensors just in case they got wet since they sit so low and tried resetting the srs light. No luck.

So I need some advice. What exactly are the codes and what do they mean? Don't want to be rude, but please spare me the "it's a flood car". Nothing got wet. Appreciate any help you guys can provide.

I should add that the battery was totally drained and had to be recharged (same battery still in the car with zero charge issues)

Well first off 8-1 means internal failure of the SRS unit.

Secondly the reason the SRS light is on is because the key was put in the ignition without having all of the seats/seat belts plugged in.

You're going to have to take it to the dealership to have them reset the SRS light with their HDS tool. Should cost you $100-120. No other way about it. Your airbags won't deploy with the SRS light on. The "closing circuit" diy reset method doesn't work with these cars. The computer has to be plugged into the HDS tool.

Thanks. Appreciate the response. I was afraid I would end up at the dealer. I try to avoid them like the plague.

Actually managed to reset the srs light. But after a short drive the light came back on.

I'll try replacing the srs unit and see what that does.

The DIY method does not work. I know what you're referring to. I had the same issue. I was able to reset the light but it came back on. There is nothing wrong with my SRS unit, or yours - don't replace it. Just have the dealership reset it.

Thanks JJH. I'll try the dealer first.

Many auto parts stores will rent you the tool. Gotta look around though. Where I'm at, only Oreillys will rent you the OBDII/CAN/SRS tool.. it is like 400 bucks, but you get the money back when/if you return it. And yes, if any of the components are unplugged while the car is turned on it will trigger an error code.

I don't think that a general auto store is likely to have an HDS/HIM tool. This is Honda specific and very expensive unless you go the Chinese knockoff route. A standard OBDII reader will not eliminate these codes, as I think you're alluding to.
