Need new axles

I was considering ordering OEM axles but the cost appears to be about $540 per side. This is from forum vendor sites. Searching here showed costs at about $170 in previous posts. Prices have gone up that much in a year???

So where to buy them now? Are Raxles still a good deal? Napa has them new for about $95 a side. Any input on these?

Haven't checked prices in quite a while, but very interesting:

6M/T '04-'08
44305-SEP-A02 DRIVESHAFT ASSY., R. 001 2006 TL $208.33 $156.25
44306-SEP-A02 DRIVESHAFT ASSY., L. 001 2006 TL $208.33 $156.25

5A/T '04-'06
44305-SDB-A00 DRIVESHAFT ASSY., R. 001 2006 TL $732.00 $549.00
44306-SDD-A00 DRIVESHAFT ASSY., L. 001 2006 TL $732.00 $549.00

5A/T '07-'08
44305-SEP-A10 DRIVESHAFT ASSY., R. 001 2007 TL $208.33 $156.25
44306-SEP-A10 DRIVESHAFT ASSY., L. 001 2007 TL $208.33 $156.25

Honda also lists their D/S assemblies for $513 each.
Having seen the rise in cost, I'd certainly purchase them at a lower cost supplier. RAxles good, but if lower price wanted check RockAuto, shipping charges but no sales tax. Use the following and receive a 5% discount on total parts:
5% Discount Code: 710F1AC6FB23

I need to replace my axle as well.

87k miles on an 05 TL and I'm hearing cranking noises while making turns.

$550 is too steep for me...sigh.

Or would it be possible to only place the CV Joint boot? Any suggestions?

It is best to keep an eye on the boots and inspect regularly and if a torn boot is noticed and replaced quickly it will save the joint, but once the CV joint becomes audible, replacement is necessary. Some will stuff grease into the joint to try and have it live longer, but with the centrifugal force the grease has a tendency to leave quickly through the torn boot.

Replacement of boot requires axle removal, so just as easy to replace the axle at that time. Don't use a split boot.

I have a GSP passenger axle on my TL for 10k so far. No problems yet, and it only cost $70ish from Advance Auto.

Of course I need the 5A/T 2005 versions. What changes were made from 2004/06 to 2007/08 that the axles are different?

07-08 5ATs use a revised/different transmission altogether.

Its your cv joints. however, inspect the boot like Turbo suggested and if that is torn then replace the whole axle; though I doubt it would come to that. Just depends on how long you have been driving like that and your driving style.

Going with the Raxles as they are about what I was expecting for OEM new.
The chainstore stuff is all over the place on good/bad. Too much time and effort to take the chance and have to replace them a short time later even with a lifetime warranty.

Delray Acura

Here's something interesting:

6M/T-As stated above:
44306-SEP-A02 DRIVESHAFT ASSY., L. 001 2004 TL $208.33 $156.25

44014-SEP-A02 JOINT SET, OUTBOARD 002 2004 TL $202.72 $152.04
44310-SEP-A91 JOINT, INBOARD 001 2004 TL $183.88 $137.91
44017-SEP-A00 BOOT SET, INBOARD 002 2004 TL $31.68 $23.76
44018-SEP-A01 BOOT SET, OUTBOARD 002 2004 TL $31.68 $23.76

If one were to purchase the major parts seperately as shown above, the parts would be $449.96 $337.47 when the complete assembly is only $156.25...crazy.

Before the increase in the complete '04-'06 A/T CV axle, the cost of the individual parts were similar to above, 2x the price.

Honda/Acura probably ran out of the original production supply and have needed to do a new production run to renew the inventory, so the complete axle cost will be the cost of all the components to cover their costs.

I just installed today. I ordered mine from raxles, paid $410 shipped for both sides. Great axles just like oem if not better. The price for oem axles for our 04 TLs is astronomical.

I had mine installed last friday, 08 Type-S MT with Advance Auto branded ToughOne axles.

Both cost me less than 117$ with a coupon code. Without I believe they are 99$ for one and 69$ for the other, the 99$ one is MT specific so its more expensive and harder to find in stock. The 69$ one is AT & MT and is readily available at more locations.

I haven't had any issues yet; no vibration or anything weird. The only difference is I don't hear any clicking or BS noises when I start it up and pull out of my drive way in the morning

So only on very cold days (below 20 degrees F), I hear a sort of ratcheting/clicking noise from the front right side of the car while turning and accelerating simultanously. Goes away after a couple minutes of driving once the car warms up. Could this be an axle? CV boot? Something else? How would I diagnose?

^^it's the outer cv joint. you could let it go until next winter. mine did this when the temp dropped into the 30-40's, and intermittent (ie only at first start up in AM when cold out). it'll stop making noise when the temps get warmer (not to say you dont' have a problem). it will just get worse with time. the CV joint is wearing. i had my axles replaced...no more clicking. i also drove on the axle like that for two winters (8k mi).

As of right now I'm speaking to an old forum member about getting 05 TL (AT) OEM axles at $185 per side shipped.

If there's enough interest we may be able to make a group purchase and bring down the price.

If you're interested let me know.

You should replace them as soon as you know they need replacing. I had one of my axles snapped making a left turn and thought it was my transmission. thank goodness it wasn't.

^^was that an OEM axle? and what is your set up (spacers, suspension, wheels and tires)?

i was on a stock/OEM spec'd set up when my axles gave signs of wearing (at 42k mi).
